A man who allegedly offered an assistance scheme deal to a 77-year-old man has been sentenced to two years imprisonment and suspended for two years for obtaining financial advantage by deception.

The accused requested the elderly man to lend him $50 and in return he would pay $300 back.

Marika Nagata on the 19th of February approached the elderly man for money in one of the banks in Sigatoka.

The court heard Nagata did not pay the man $300 on the next day, as per the deal.

The elderly man reported the matter to Police and the accused was arrested with the help of the video footage from the bank.
