Elderly couple on trial for alleged rape and aiding and abetting

A couple from Nasinu in their sixties are on trial for their alleged involvement in rape and aiding and abetting the offence in August 2016.

It is alleged the man raped his fourteen-year-old neighbor between 1st and 31st August 2016.

The man is charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecently annoying a person and one count of sexual assault.

His wife is charged with one count of aiding and abetting the offence of rape.
It is alleged the two called the teenager to clean their house in exchange for bus fare when the alleged incident happened.

It is alleged the two had also threatened the victim not to tell anyone of the alleged incident.

The medical officer who examined the victim on 29th September 2016 gave evidence in the Suva High court today.

Dr Elvira Ombit said when she examined the girl, she was coherent, consistent and confident.

Dr Ombit who is based at the Medical Services Pacific said the patient informed her of the alleged incident and she knew what she was talking about.

She said her vaginal examination result was consistent with the injuries in relation to the alleged incident.

Upon cross examination by the defense counsel she also said the victim was sexually active.

The trial continues before High court Judge Justice Salesi Temo.
