An eight year old boy of Laselase in Sigatoka has been given a new lease of life, after the successful removal of a lump on his back.

Sikeli Kunaqio a Year 3 student of St Joan of Arc, was born with the lump, which grew bigger as he grew older.

And because of that, he was the brunt of bullying in school.

Last week, the lump was removed by doctors from the US, who are conducting free surgeries at the Waiyevo Hospital in Taveuni.

“People were always teasing me. Now, people will not tease me because my ‘boon-boon’ (lump) is gone.”

The doctors are in Fiji under the Loloma Foundation, a California based NGO whose mission is to bring surgical and dental surgery to rural parts of Fiji.

Waiyevo Hospital is the home-base for the Foundation.

This is the eighth year they have come to Taveuni, operating on patients from all over Fiji.
