Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says Fiji needs a port area where they have all the facilities of a modern-day port.

Sayed-Khaiyum says it’s not just about providing for container and fishing ships, but other types of ships as well.

The Minister adds an efficient port will be able to attract more vessels as a lot of cargos will be coming to our shores due to the increasing demand for goods.

“Of course that goes towards the profitability of the company but strategically the relocation means a lot. We can also enhance the usage of this very prime property that we have in the foreshore of Suva.”

Sayed-Khaiyum adds Sri Lankan company Aitken Spence will support the government in trying to relocate the Suva Port.

He adds the company will ensure that a financially, bankable and technical feasibility study is done before the relocation.
