Effects of substance abuse costly to Government

The effects of drug and substance abuse in Fiji has costs Government millions of dollars each year.

Government is trying its best to address the problem.

Assistant Director National Substance Abuse Advisory Council Talica Malani told FBC News most of the domestic violence in Fiji are mostly associated to drugs or substance abuse.

“Fiji Womens Crisis Centre January newsletter stated that it cost the Government around $498 million in 2011 that is just due to domestic violence, the major contributing factor to that the use of drugs and substance abuse.”

She adds a lot of criminal activities are closely associated to substance abuse.
