Teachers need to perform up to expectation

Education Ministry Permanent Secretary Alison Burchell

Education Ministry Permanent Secretary has urged teacher training institutions to prepare teachers well before they’re assigned to schools.

This follows the Prime Minister’s comment for teachers to perform up to expectation as the government continues to provide resources and reforms to most schools.

Alison Burchell says providing quality teachers is an area of interest for the Ministry, adding that relevant institutions should also play their part.

“It’s looking at what’s happening in schools already but we need to also work much more closely in terms of getting the teacher training institutions to do their work properly. Our students are being limited by our curriculum to some extent in the way in which we operate and that’s why we’re looking at potentially changing the curriculum.”

Burchell says they will continue to look for ways to improve the education sector.
