The Consumer Council is urging parents, guardians and students to be vigilant and engage in comparative shopping while shopping for school supplies.

Consumers are also urged to check the quality of exercise books and ensure that they are stapled properly and margin lines are correctly imprinted.

This after a survey conducted by the Consumer Council reveals the prices of exercise books have increased between $0.10 and $1.00.

The Council surveyed around 29 bookshops in the Central, Western and Northern divisions.

The prices were compared from last year and the Council says the analysis reveals that all exercise book prices have increased irrespective of the brand.

It says the traders attributed the increase to high production and overhead costs incurred by the suppliers of exercise books.
