Opportunities and visibility increases when people and stakeholders continue to work together for a common goal.

That bold statement best describes the approach that the Reproductive and Family Health Association of Fiji has taken in working together with the Ministry of Education.

Association Executive Director Matelita Seva-Cadravula says this has been an effective technique to increase their awareness program.

“So we’ve worked with special schools in developing the capacity of the teachers in addressing sexual and reproductive health issues with the children, with students in special schools”.

She adds the school has also participated in the ministry’s career exposition where children are being enlightened on social issues that evolve in society and ways to curb them.

“We also have a very good relationship with the TVET unit with the Ministry of Education regarding their careers exposition. So we are also able to go to their careers exposition and this is where we talk to the children about their social safety network”.

Meanwhile, Senior Education Officer Careers section Aminiasi Voresara says the association’s engagement has enabled the team to foster parental engagement.

Voresara says more awareness from such organization is critical in order to counter social ills in society.
