She says to address this, they have put out expression of interests to teachers who are unemployed and new graduates if they want to join the Ministry.

“There has been shortages from last year. We haven’t been able to fill some positions, so the onus lies on the heads of schools to ensure that they utilize the current staffing to ensure that no children are left alone.”

Akbar adds they have also found out that some schools are overstaffed, and they are trying to get those teachers to move to understaffed schools.

She mentions that they should be able to solve this issue in the coming weeks.

The Minister says they will consider retired teachers when they have exhaust all avenues.
