Minister encourages commemoration of International Literacy Day

Minister for Education Rosy Akbar has wished everyone a very interactive International Literacy day.

The International Literacy Day, marked by UNESCO, is an event celebrated on 8 September every year to highlight the importance of literacy in everyday lives.

Akbar says this is the key to opening access to learning and comprehending, and contributes to a sustainable future for all by empowering individuals, communities and societies.

She says literacy is a part of Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The Minister adds it supports the mission to provide quality and equitable education for all citizens from early childhood to adult literacy.

Akbar says literacy is the key to education and is supported by the teachers

The Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts encourages the commemoration of International Literacy Day annually to mark the importance of literacy, with a strong emphasis on the vernacular and conversational languages.
