Issues between Uni Fiji and Student Association ironed out

The University of Fiji Council members held a special meeting over the weekend to discuss and resolve some outstanding issues.

Chair Anil Tikaram, says the decisions made at the meeting were positive and well received by not only the Student Association president but also the rest of the Council members.

Tikaram says the Council approved the uplifting of the austerity measures clearing the way for staff reviews, staff allowances and promotion while uplifting restrictions on seven other related areas.

He says this is a positive move which will enhance the relationship with staff, students and administration.

Few other outcomes include the inclusion of student representatives in more Council subcommittees and allowing students to sit for exams while a payment plan is being worked out with the Finance Office to address fees in arrears.

Professor Anurag Subramani has been appointed the Acting Vice-Chancellor to take over duties from the former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Narendra Reddy who is on medical leave.

Professor Subramani will review decisions made earlier on Senior Management appointments and make recommendations on the renewal of staff contracts.

He will hold office until the appointment of the substantive Vice Chancellor.
