Closing all the schools is our last resort: Archbishop

The Archbishop of the Catholic Church of Fiji, Peter Loy Chong has finally spoken out on the proposed plan to close down all catholic schools if their concerns are not met by government.

Speaking to FBC News from Vanua Levu, Archbishop Loy Chong says the proposal came from the Catholic Education Board and leaders of congregations.

The Archbishop says if government will not resolve the issue than their last resort will be to close all their schools which comprises of 44 primary schools and 19 secondary schools.

He says they are in solidarity with other faith communities and they hope that their dialogue with the Education Ministry will resolve the issue.

FBC News has sent questions to the Education Minister Rosy Akbar to comment on the issue, however no response was forthcoming when this bulletin was prepared.
