Address skills shortage and promote study: Minister Akbar

The Science Challenge held to attract students to STEM subjects.

STEM subjects are science, technology, engineering and mathematics which saw the participation yesterday of students from eight different primary schools.

While officiating at the event at the Vodafone Arena, the Minister for Education Rosy Akbar said that Fiji needs to address our skills shortage and promote study to work in one of those areas which will certainly lead to employment.

Akbar adds that the challenge aims to inspire students to consider a future career in science and engineering by choosing to study subjects such as Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering in Secondary School.

Only primary schools part took in the sessions yesterday while the secondary schools will participate in the challenge session today.
