The Education Ministry has partnered with the ANZ bank to have more electronic transactions to avoid delays in payments of rural maritime allowances and travel allowances for teachers.

This after it was discovered that the Ministry makes payments by cheque.

Minister responsible Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the transactive banking agreement will bring about a huge change for the Ministry.

Sayed-Khaiyum says this is another move towards a cashless economy.

“We cannot have a large ministry with high levels of transactions on a daily basis, we’re looking at 150 transactions that the ministry is engaged with.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says this agreement will save banking time and provide a well-organized cash management for internet optimization.

Meanwhile, Fiji is moving towards the digital era and Fijians need to innovate new ways to move towards a cash-less economy.
