Education ministry begins ICT policy review

The Ministry of Education is calling for public submissions on the development of an Information and Communications Technology Policy that will govern the use of mobiles and other electronic devices in schools.

Minister for Education, Dr. Mahendra Reddy says the idea is for the sector to be responsive to its changing environment.

“I.T Technology are there and is going to be there, we cannot ignore it, what we want to do is see how it could be utilized to enhance student learning and how we could develop responses to discourage any negative effects of the IT revolution on students, it is in that regard which we want to benefit from the collective wisdom out there, thence extensive consultations.”

Reddy adds that the public input about what the ICT policy should prioritize would be pivotal to how effective the policy will be.

The public have until May 15th to make a submission before a draft policy is developed and further scrutinized.

Submissions can be emailed, mailed or hand delivered to the Ministry.
