Education Minister appears in court

Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Dr Reddy is charged with one count of bribery and one count of undue influence by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption.

It is alleged that Dr Reddy offered steady water source for Ra High School to influence the vote of one Waisea Lelobo who is the school manager.

It is also alleged that Dr Reddy interfered with the free exercise or performance of a political right of Lelobo.

The alleged offenses took place on May 8th.

Dr Reddy pleaded not guilty on both charges.

He presented two sureties in court this afternoon.

One of the sureties is Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Vijay Nath.

Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili ordered Reddy to report to Nabua Police Station once a week.

The matter has been adjourned to July 19th.
