Early TB and Brucellosis testing is vital for dairy farms

The Agriculture Ministry says most farmers have suffered huge cattle losses due to late testing of Tuberculosis and Brucellosis.

To help prevent these diseases from severely affecting farmers, the ministry is putting in plans to get all dairy farms tested.

However, Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Limited Chief Executive, Sachida Nand says farmers need to play a leading role in getting their dairy animals tested.

“We are working on a project for calf rearing ,fencing ,we are also looking at subsiding calf rations and calf milk replacers so these are all activities geared into getting calves on the field ,raising good quality cows and improve the production on those farms.”

Nand says they are initiating plans and programmers to effectively enhance the dairy industry despite the threat posed by the two diseases.
