After the roll out of the e-passports the focus is now on introducing e-gates.
The Permanent Secretary for the Prime Minister’s office Yogesh Karan says before e-gates are introduced there needs to be enough number of e-passports in the country.
He adds this will make travelling easy as the e-passports will be used at the e-gates instead of having the physical passports checked by border force officers.

_“What we want to do certainly is introduce e-gates as soon as possible. But before e-gates we must have enough number of e passports in the country otherwise, if we get the machines there and you don’t have the right passport so it won’t be of much use.”_
Karan says they hope to complete e-gates by the end of next year.
