Concerns have been raised after people were seen drunk and disorderly on the streets in the early hours of the morning especially after the closure of popular nightspots.

As a result steps will now be taken against those found drunk or consuming alcohol in public places under the Minor Offences Act.

This is a directive from the Commissioner of Police Ben Groenewald.

Operations on the ground will be monitoring this issue, particularly as we enter the festive season.

The trend shows that there is often an increase in reports of this nature from around the divisions during this time of the year.
