Drug dealers trying to subvert border security

July 24, 2019 12:45 pm

Elements involved in illegal imports of drugs such as methamphetamines are continuously trying to subvert the authorities – by employing new methods of shipment.

Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho says those behind the drug trade are actively seeking information on how police and border authorities operate.

“They keep changing their Modus Operande. We were dealing with fine crystal form of Meth, now its appearing in bigger crystals that shows that it might be quicker processing it going through. We are starting to analyze information that it’s being moved in liquid form. We have dog detector units available, they try and beat the dogs as well. The dogs are trained to a certain level of purity so they try and dilute it.”

Qiliho says the fact arrests have been made is evidence that investigators are making in-roads into this emerging drug trade, and that more arrests will follow.

He adds the Fiji Police Force continues to re-examine its operations to stay hot on the heels of those involved.
