Drowning case pushes death toll up

A six-year-old child is believed to be the country’s latest drowning victim.

The kindergarten student was swimming with a 29 year old at the Wainibuka River at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon when the alleged incident occurred.

Attempts to revive the victim were unsuccessful and he was conveyed to the Nayau Health Centre where he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

A post mortem will be conducted as investigations continue.

The drowning toll stands at 33 compared to 32 for the same period last year.
