The Ministry of Waterways has completed dredging the Labasa River and the Qawa River.

Minister for Waterways Dr Mahendra Reddy told a public consultation in Labasa, they had earlier completed dredging at the Labasa River while dredging works at the Qawa River concluded last month.

He says currently, they are working on the navigation channel which they hope to complete in four months’ time.

Following that, the team will move to dredge the Qelewaqa River, in Bua.

Dr Reddy says they are working to ensure all measures are implemented to keep the community in Labasa is safe from flooding during the wet weather season.
