November 28, 2017 11:45 pm

The Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says there has been a drastic reduction in burglaries and aggravated robberies in comparison to the trend over the past three years.

Qiliho says this can be attributed to a number of counter measures implemented by the Force.

“We put in place an operation, Operation ‘Yadra Yadra Vaki’ which commenced on the first of November and we have reviewed that on the 14th of November and we are continuing that operation and we’ll review it at the end of the month. It has drastically reduced the stats that were there so in comparison to the same period last year, both of those were reduced by around 30 percent, one was by 30 percent, the other by 34 percent.”

“Together with the public in that regard has shown a significant impact on those stats that we already have this year, so I must thank the public.”

The decrease in burglaries has also been complemented by a decrease in general crime.

According to Police, there has been a 21 percent reduction in general crime over the first three weeks of November in comparison to last year as well as a 10 percent fall in overall crime recorded.
