The Western Drainage Board is currently visiting all the cane belt areas to inspect the drains.

Board chair, Faiyaz Ali, says the inspection is being carried out as continuous heavy rain recently may have caused blockages.

Ali says they are working closely with cane farmers to ensure blocked drains do not affect their farms in anyway.

He says some farmers have taken the onus and improved the drainage system themselves and there are no clogs in their fields.

Farmer have been urged to contact the Drainage Board if they need any advice or assistance.
