Dr Reddy encourages students to call helpline for support

The Education Ministry will now spread the word on a Child Helpline run by Medical Services Pacific.

Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy has decided that all schools will encourage students to call the helpline for support.

Dr Mahendra Reddy says problems faced by children these days didn’t exist few decades ago and most parents have no idea who their children are mixing with.

“They’re liaising with our children through various social media platforms, text messages, facebook. We don’t know whom our children are talking to when they are committing to from school and back.”

Dr Reddy says even in these dangerous circumstances, children are reluctant to talk to parents, and that’s where counselors at the Child Helpline come in.

The Child Helpline was launched earlier this year to guide children and provide assistance as and when needed.

More than five thousand calls have been made to the number 1,325 so far.
