Dr Reddy claims Opposition is confused

July 10, 2018 6:55 pm

A confused opposition with no solutions is how Waterways Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy describes the responses delivered by the left side of the house.

Dr Reddy claims over the two days of responses, the Opposition has not converse on what their main issue is regarding the 2018/2019 national budget.
He believes a trend of four common points has emerged from the Opposition.

“Have you hear any one of the Opposition MP provide an alternative expenditure bundle? From yesterday until now not a single member of the opposition in their contribution offend an alternative expenditure bundle. Secondly, is to throw obsolete numbers to create alarm amongst Fijians. The third trend noted is the new thing about ‘R’ – they fail to realize this R is about capital purchases and capital works. The last trend is comments which are based on vested interest from the members of the opposition.”

Economy Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum also expressed his disappointment over the lack of collective contribution and new ideas submitted from the Opposition.

“Be able to discuss how we can take our country forward. We have a young population – there was much more than we all in this parliament could do for them, but that did not happen because of the Opposition’s attitude, because they did not portray a unique display of patriotism and nationalism which is very critical to take our country forward. It is with great disappointment that I stand here to speak. In fact, I did not even feel like speaking given the quality of submissions from the other side.”

Sayed-Khaiyum claims on many fronts in the last four years, the Opposition has chosen to resort to racism, lies, obfuscation of facts and figures instead of creating opportunities of growth for Fijians.
