DPP withdraws case against senior church executives

The Suva Magistrates Court has dismissed the charges against two senior members of the Methodist Church of Fiji charged with organising and participating in an illegal meeting.

Reverend Ame Tugawe and Reverend Tomasi Kanailagi are free men after the Director of Public Prosecutions filed a Nolle Prosequi – stating they no longer wish to pursue the case.

The late church president Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu, Reverend Ame Tugaue, the late Reverend Manasa Lasaro and Reverend Tomasi Kanailagi were charged for allegedly breaching the Public Emergency Regulation in 2009.

The Methodist Church is expected to release a statement later today.
