DPP to consider Bala acquittal

The Director of Public Prosecutions will consider the acquittal of Local Government Minister Parveen Kumar Bala who was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.

In a statement this afternoon, the DPP’s office confirms Director Christopher Pryde will next week consider the ruling and decide whether to file an appeal.

The Lautoka Magistrates Court acquitted Bala earlier today based on a ruling that he had no case to answer.

Bala was alleged to have caused the death of Puna Chand in a road accident near Teidamu in Lautoka in November 2013.
