DPP to appeal a suspended sentence

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde will appeal a suspended sentence handed down to a man convicted of assault arising from an incident of domestic violence.

Shahadatt Khan was found guilty of two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm where a cane knife and a stick were used to injure three family members at Nausori in 2012.

He was handed a 36 month suspended sentence by the Nausori Magistrates court on the 18th of last month.

The notice of appeal was filed at the Court of Appeal registry yesterday.
