DPP prosecutes 47 serious sexual offenses in June

32 people have been charged with 47 separate incidents of serious sexual offenses for the month of June alone.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has revealed that the 47 incidents consisted of 43 rape cases, 3 cases of defilement and 1 of indecent assault.

Of these cases, there were 25 victims, 15 of which were under the age of 18. Of these 15, three were between the ages of 3 and 6, while 12 were between the ages of 13 and 17.

There were 13 rape victims under the age of 18 years, one victim of indecent assault under the age of 18 years and one victim of defilement.

The DPPs also report that 6 cases were discontinued before the courts which included 5 rape matters and one defilement matter. These were due to the filing of Nolle Prosequi.

There were also two serious sexual offenses that involved couples in domestic relationships.

In May, the DPP reported 48 separate incidents of serious sexual offenses involving 28 people.
