July 4, 2016 10:00 pm

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has clarified that they do not come under the direct control of the Attorney-General (AG).

This is after a statement released by Opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu included the DPP under the portfolio of the Attorney-General.

Director of Public Prosecution Christopher Pryde, in a statement today clarified this issue saying this is not true; the DPP does not report to the AG.

Pryde says the decision to prosecute of to continue criminal proceedings is made by the DPP alone without interference to or in consultation with the Attorney-General, or government or any other Minister.

He adds that the DPP as a constitutional office is an independent and non-political office.
