Doing whatever necessary to grow sugar industry

Fiji intends to continue with the program to modernise the sugar industry in the country.

Prime Minister and Sugar Minister Voreqe Bainimarama assured members of the International Sugar Organisation in London that Fiji will do whatever necessary to keep on growing the industry

Bainimarama says Fiji doesn’t intend to give up on sugar and is undertaking a review of its Sugar Action Plan 2013-2017

“To finds out why certain targets haven’t been met and what needs to be done to meet them .And set new targets and time lines ,plus new policy guidelines and investment plans to take us forward .All this will be included in a new successor plan for the industry for the next three to five years starting the next year 2017”.

Bainimarama also met with London-based sugar refiner -Tayte and Lyle which has reasserted it’s commitment to a long-term partnership with Fiji, including technical support and assistance for the implementation of the ongoing reforms.
