Diwali carries with it an age-old message which we must aspire to each and every day.

These were the sentiments shared by Minster for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa while officiating at the Ba Senior Citizens Home Diwali Celebrations.

Vuniwaqa also acknowledged the contributions by elders to this nation adding that it is their knowledge, experience, skills and abilities that has equally shaped the status of development that Fiji proudly showcases regionally and globally today.

The Minister stressed that her message to Fiji is very much in line with the reason why we celebrate Diwali.

“The story of Diwali highlights, family unity, togetherness, good values and loving one another. Even in this era, these traits are what make a complete, fulfilling life for us and our loved ones; and what better opportunity than Diwali to reiterate the importance of treating our elders with the respect, love and compassion that they deserve by rewinding the journey of Lord Rama that began from a noble, selfless and obedient honor of his father’s promise.”

She reiterated that Diwali is a reminder to all that it is our responsibility to look out for each other and see beyond gender, race, religion, age, abilities and status and do what is right.
