Diwali an occasion to show strength of growing diversity

November 10, 2015 3:05 am

Diwali is the festival of lights but even more than that… in Fiji it has become an occasion to show the strength of the nation’s growing diversity.

The messages from by religious organizations and some parliamentarians highlight that diversity.

Arya Pratinidhi Sabha spokesperson Kamlesh Arya says all festivals have a meaning to it and people should use it in their daily lives.

“We must become part of the celebration, pay attention to the ethos of the celebration, enjoy the festivity, with respect and love for each other. If we do that, definitely there is room for recommendation and inclusiveness.”

The general secretary of Sanatan Dharm – Virendra Lal says the festival of lives brings togetherness among the people.

“The message from Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha is we all work towards that, it signifies triumph over evil – so we do the right things and follow the right paths and may the Goddess of Laxmi – the Goddess of Wealth pour her blessings on each and every one of us.”

Diwali or the ‘festival of lights’ is an ancient Hindu festival and one of the brightest festivals in the Hindu Calendar.

The festival spiritually signifies the victory of good over evil with preparations and rituals extending over a five-day period.
