Dive team continues search for helicopter

August 15, 2019 7:10 am

The Fiji Navy dive team continues to investigate potential target areas in the Natewa Bay to get a visual of the helicopter that crashed in the vicinity almost two weeks ago.

They have been roped in to help with the Hydrographic team that is scanning the seabed in the Bay.

Investigator in Charge Andrew McGregor says the conditions out in the Bay have not been favourable and continue to limit their search effort.

The search is being carried out based on the tides and the currents.

McGregor adds that the reef system in the Bay is posing a threat to the equipment and the fact that the Bay has deep channels is not helpful to their efforts.

Volunteer divers from nearby resorts have also been assisting in the search and recovery effort.

The Natewa Bay is the largest deep water bay in the South Pacific with a depth of up to 500 metres in some places.
