DISMAC funding to increase

The National Disaster Management Office is expected to get a substantial increase in its budget for 2015.

Principal disaster management officer Sunia Ratulevu says the government is aware of the offices involvement in dealing with climate change adaption issues.

“So mitigation and preparedness funding will keep on increasing. And now the government understands that one dollar used in disaster mitigation preparedness will save up to four dollars in disaster response.”

Ratulevu added that the office has no funding issues for disaster preparedness and response.

The DISMAC Office has made preparations for the cyclone season which begin mid- November.
