Discrepancy over Methodist church numbers

August 21, 2019 6:17 am

A Methodist Church census will be one of the major topics on day three of the Annual Conference this morning.

Communications Secretary, Wifred Regunamada says there is a huge difference in the number of followers recorded in the government census when compared to the church numbers.

Regunamada says they are working to ensure that the Church has an accurate account of its members.

“The issue here is counting, the Methodist Church is working on finding a good format of counting the members just to get the members tallied with the government. The government census in 2017 says that the population of the Methodist church is 309,000.”

It is estimated that there are over 190,000 Methodists in Fiji.

The weeklong conference ends on Friday.
