Disaster Chaplaincy Network to address disaster management

The Pacific Council of Churches has put in place a Disaster Chaplaincy Network as it works on its disaster risk management.

Church Representative Frances Namoumou says this will help chaplains from all congregations to avoid becoming traumatized while offering counseling to affected communities when disaster strikes.

“I think this is an important component for the church, we feel not only having our presence in the communities is important and given that most of the communities in the Pacific would have faith communities existence but how can the church be more visible, how do we provide support I mean physical support, having fellowship with communities and planning out how do they want to rebuild”.

Namoumou says the network will also ensure all affected communities are provided counselling services to help them recover post disasters.
