November 4, 2014 4:00 am

Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation President Rakesh Chand says there is a need to create more awareness about cases of violence against women with disabilities.

He made the comment as a four-day workshop got underway in Suva today.

“So that women with disabilities can come and talk freely and discuss their problems and we can map out a road forward.”

The workshop will endeavour to educate the participants of the toolkit which was put together in 2013.

It is basically a guide for women and persons with disabilities to handle the many challenges that they come across – seeking justice when they are abused and knowing their rights.

Gender and Youth officer for Pacific Disability Forum Naomi Naivoce says at the end of the workshop participants will be equipped with the relevant information and resources to go into the community and advocate against violence.
