Digicel to launch 4G network

Digicel Fiji tonight launches Fiji’s biggest 4G network after an investment of seventy million dollars over the last few months.

Chief Executive Darren McLean says the network will bring improved services for customer with high speed access to the world wide web.

“$70m is a lot of dough to spend and we’re not there yet. What we have completed is Fiji’s biggest 4G network. Our overall ambition is to lead on data network. There is still work to come on 3G network.”

He adds they’ve spent the last few months on new infrastructure – radio towers the 4G network as well as growing 3G access around Fiji.

Even now, there are engineers working at different sites.

He adds the new service has implications for everyone, personal users can access social networking sites and download apps – or any internet based activity, while businesses will have high speed data transfer.

Digicel’s 4G network is tonight being launched by Telecommunications Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
