Importation or usage of a particular type of cordless phone, the Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telephone or DECT has been deemed illegal because of interference to mobile communication services.

Vodafone’s Acting Chief Executive Ronald Prasad says other than DECT phones, there are other devices causing interference.

“The common problem is DECT phones that have been found to be interfering with Vodafone’s licensed frequency but we have also in partnership with TAF have been able to confiscate equipment that have been interfering on other frequencies as well but its predominantly on 3G frequency but these include DECT, wireless camera , wireless printers and also Wi-Fi antennas.”
