Deployment of Police Response Unit

More than one hundred officers from the Police Response Unit will be deployed to various divisions this week as we approach the festive season.

Chief Operations, Rusiate Tudravu says this is the first time their end of year operations have begun this early with a new strategy to deter would be criminals.

“This is just to improve our service delivery, regain the confidence of people in terms of our visibility within the populated areas and also to fasten up some of the backlogs cases that causing a lot of discussion amongst communities.”

Tudravu says the directive has come from the Commissioner’s office for men and women to be out on patrols at the earliest.
He adds there’s longer a norm to begin operations in December so that they can make Christmas and New Year safe and enjoyable for the public.

The Police Response Unit will also visible on the streets and at checkpoints in strategic locations.

Twenty personnel are already in the West, ten will be dispatched to Taveuni while others will be stationed in Nausori and Labasa.
