August 25, 2019 12:10 pm

Non-Communicable Diseases will be a major problem by 2030 irrespective of where you live.

Fiji Dental Association President Vikash Singh has expressed concerns about the increasing dental health problems in the country that has been noted to contribute to the rise in NCD cases.

“The other thing about oral conditions is that some of the systemic diseases like certain heart conditions and diabetes is linked to your oral health. So if you have to do oral hygiene you will have difficulty in controlling some of this systemic condition that you have.”

Singh says while they have no statistics on the status of dental and oral health in the country, they hope to work with relevant authorities in addressing this issue.

The Fiji Dental Association is a professional body, we are advising the relevant authority about the status of oral health in the country and we would like to work in conjunction with the relevant authority who is responsible for delivering oral; health care services to the population.”

The Association is advising Fijians to prioritize their oral health and do regular checkups to avoid unnecessary loss of teeth and avoid various other gum diseases.
