Delay in police payout as verification process is underway

February 3, 2016 6:14 pm

There is a delay in paying out special constables who served additional hours from 2011 to 2015.

Acting Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says they’re going through the final verification process.

More than one thousand special constables will have to wait a while longer as the Fiji Police Force gets all the paperwork sorted.

Brigadier General Qiliho says he had hoped to pay out earlier but the pending issues need to be validated.

“There are changes in pay rates in those 5 years we’re working on- that needs to be further verified and calculated. Some have taken day offs and. we shouldn’t be paying them for those days as they have taken day offs. I have my skype sessions with the divisions on Mondays and Fridays and i will use that modem of communication to communicate directly to my men and women involved in this on the exact date that we propose to pay it out rather than giving it out in public.”

Brigadier General Qiliho adds there will be no public announcement of the payout date until he’s informed all concerned police men and women.

Payment for outstanding hours has been overdue for the last five years and in some cases, officers are owed for over a thousand hours of work.
