Defence Ministry receives assistance from China

The Minister of Defence and National Security, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola yesterday received $38,000 in assistance from Qian Bo, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji.

The funding assistance provided by China is for the procurement of equipment for the Ministry of Defence and National Security to enhance its capability and resources for conducting training, awareness and other new security initiatives, such as, search and rescue, border security and Crime Board initiatives.

Kubuabola says over the past 43 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Fiji and China, the bilateral relations have enjoyed fast development with booming friendly exchanges and mutual cooperation in such fields as trade, investment and sports.

Fiji’s Defence relations with China has developed over the years through mutual cooperation and consultations.

The Minister adds that Fiji’s Government is seeking much needed aid and equipment to maintain a modern and agile security force in which the Chinese Government has stepped forward to assist with.
