Discussions during the South Pacific Defence Ministers meeting which begins in Nadi today is very vital.
Speaking during the traditional welcome ceremony for the delegates last night, Minister for Defence Inia Seruiratu is adamant that discussions over the next few days will be vital.
He also welcomed the delegates not only as friends but as a Pacific family.
“As your hosts available to serve you we hope that we can deliver to your expectations and we look forward to the meetings and the rest of the activities planned and make the most of this opportunity.”
The three-day meet is the first of its kind to be held in the country after Fiji attended its first meeting in New Zealand in 2017 and was then admitted as a member country.
The meeting is a regional forum of South Pacific Defence Ministers that provides an opportunity for regional Defence Ministers and Chiefs of Defence Forces to discuss common security challenges and identify ways to improve regional security cooperation.
The biennial forum involves Defence Ministers from Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, France and Chile with the United States and the United Kingdom as observers.
