Chair of the Tailevu Provincial Council ACP Rusiate Tudravu says the province is making progress in rehabilitating people.

Tailevu tops all other provinces in terms of the number of people serving prison sentences.

This has been confirmed by Chair of the Tailevu Provincial Council ACP Rusiate Tudravu who says the province is making progress in rehabilitating people.

“There’s a lot of improvements on that. We have been supporting Fiji Corrections Service in terms of the inmates and also their rehabilitation when they come outside the correction facilities. There is a committee that is taking of that and I’ve noted that there is a drop in terms of inmates, but we still need more improvements on that”.

ACP Tudravu adds the council had implemented strategies to address the issue last year when it was confirmed that 170 inmates around Fiji were from Tailevu.

“There is a Tailevu Care that looks after that in terms of their rehabilitation. We have been doing that as well. What we are trying to do now, our focus is the preventative part before they commit an offence”.

The Tailevu Provincial Council Meeting is underway in Verata.
