Major road maintenance is underway to repair the Dawasamu Road.

Dawasamu Road is important to farmers as it is the main access to Korovou Town.

It runs from Korovou to the village of Barotu, where it connects with the Kings Road.

It services Queen Victoria School, several settlements and many villages.

The Fiji Roads Authority says the road has been severely damaged by heavy and often overloaded vehicles.

It has been in a poor condition that carriers and buses would occasionally get stuck and have to be towed out.

Significant work is now in place to strengthen the road against the impact of heavily loaded vehicles.

These include preparing the road surface, reshaping and forming the road and replacing the uneven surfaces with compacted gravel.
