Damage from the North pour in

The Northern Division Emergency Operation Centre continues it’s full operation with the respective stakeholders on stand-by.

The curfew has been lifted this morning allowing for free flowing traffic through Labasa Town.

However, for Savusavu Town, Taveuni and Nabouwalu, motorists will not be able to access some areas due to fallen power lines, trees and debris.

Various teams are working full time to clear the roads so as to allow access to communities affected.

The Bua Province and Savusavu felt the full brunt of TC Winston, there were major damages to homes, roads, wharfs, jetties and farms.

Electricity supply has been restored to some locations in Labasa.

Work is progressing slowly to restore power supply in Savusavu.

There is still no power at Seaqaqa Town, Nabouwalu and Taveuni.

Water has also been restored to some parts of Vanua Levu, while for others, water carting is available.

The Red Cross team has started distributing non-food items to affected families. Distribution is currently being undertaken in Savusavu and Nabouwalu.
