Customers concerned with high water bills

December 3, 2012 6:03 pm

Some Water Authority of Fiji customers are concerned at the sudden massive increase in their bills for last month.

What used to be a thirty to forty dollar monthly bill for one customer who opted to remain anonymous, came to more than two thousand dollars for November.

FBC News has spoken to two such customers who say they’ve lodged their complaints with the Authority.

The customer claims she was told that the bill was for one of her old neighbours who had moved out of the area…and because he hadn’t paid, she was now responsible.

The Authority says the transfer of arrears from previously disconnected meter accounts to active accounts on the same premises – is part of their recovery process to vigorously pursue customers who have been evading their dues.

It goes on to say that property owners will have to pay for the arrears left behind by previous owners.

However both customers claim they’ve never shared water meters and that the properties they live in belonged to their families for generations.

In response to these claims, the authority says they’d send a team to the customers’ residence to investigate.
